The problem that started it

[Founder's dog], a [breed/weight] rescue, went through her third round of impacted glands in four months. Two vet visits, a drawer full of wipes and sprays that treated the smell but never the cause, and a supplement aisle full of ten-ingredient labels that explained none of them.

We didn't want another product with a long ingredient list and a short explanation. We wanted to know exactly what was doing the work — and why nothing else on the shelf could tell us.

Into the research, before a single prototype

Before we mixed anything, we spent [ ] weeks in veterinary and nutrition literature — not marketing copy, published research on stool consistency, soluble versus insoluble fiber, and the actual mechanics of how anal glands empty during a bowel movement.

We built a shortlist of [ ] candidates and ran every one against a simple test: is there real research behind why this ingredient should work, or is it just a familiar name on a label? Most didn't survive that filter.

The prototypes that didn't work

Prototype one used a fiber ratio that was too aggressive — stool firmed up almost too well, and a couple of our test dogs got constipated instead of relieved. Prototype two fixed that, but the probiotic strain we'd picked didn't survive manufacturing, so it was doing close to nothing by the time it reached the bag.

It took [ ] iterations to land on a version that hit all three things we cared about: firm without over-firming, probiotics that actually survive to the gut, and — the part nobody puts in the pitch deck — something dogs would eat every day without a fight.

The pilot cohort

We didn't ship the version that worked on paper. We tested it. [ ] dogs, [ ] owners, [ ] weeks, daily logs on stool consistency, scooting frequency, and anything unusual — with one standing rule: any dog with a bad reaction meant back to the lab, no exceptions.

Veterinary review

Before anything was final, the full formula, dosing, and every claim on this site went through our Veterinary Advisory Panel. One ingredient we liked on paper got cut at this stage — [reason, e.g. a theoretical interaction with a common medication] — because it wasn't worth the risk in a supplement meant to be given daily, long-term.

Where we are now

Gland + Stool Support is what came out the other side of that process. We didn't stop testing once it shipped — every batch is tested after production, not just before, and we're currently expanding our pilot testing to a larger group of dogs across more home environments. See "What's Next" below.
